We have a negativity bias
It helps us scan our world and search for danger. But it also means that our brain is trained to look for the negative things in out lives. In turn, we tend to speak negatively to ourselves to “keep us safe”.[1,2]
But, it also leaves us feeling defeated, not good enough and ashamed.
When we bring attention to our thoughts, we start to realize that we say INCREDIBLY negative things to ourselves on a constant basis, and we are so unaware of the kinds of things we say!!
What if we were as careful about what we say to ourselves as we are to our best friends?[3]
What if you were your own cheerleader on your pelvic health journey?
What if each step was accompanied by a cheering squad?
What if you made yourself feel important enough to dedicate time and energy to doing your homework and following the advice of your physio?[4]
What if your road to recovery – bumps and all- were supported by you? And your thoughts?
Generally speaking, we all do it – it affects us, and we need to bring awareness to it.
The reality is, that we have this inner dialogue and we need to listen and start to actually ask ourselves if that is true – and THEN we can start to see change!
